Mr. and Mrs. Bernard John Nicholls
Doylestown, Pennsylvania
Sep 17, 1924 – Feb 10, 2018 (Age 93)
Bernard John Nicholls born September 17th, 1924, passed away peacefully at Greenleaf in Doylestown on February 10, 2018. Bernie was born and raised in West Ham, London. He joined the Royal Navy during World War II. He was a Petty Officer and this is where he met his beloved first wife, Dorothy Kew-Anderson. They married in September of 1944. After the war, Bernie had a long career working as a design draftsman/engineer for AEC who produced London Double Decker Buses. Bernie and Dorothy also spent many a Saturday taking wedding photos of happy couples, one such couple quoted they would always remember Bernie as their own personal "David Bailey", a famous British photographer of the time. After the untimely death of Dorothy in 1987, Bernie moved to America and through close family friends he was fortunate to meet a second love of his life, Ollie Ely (April 16, 1925). They soon married and continued to enjoy life in Wilmington, Delaware. Bernie taught Ollie how to play lawn bowls and Ollie taught Bernie her gardening tricks. They loved cats and beautifying their home. They traveled all over the world in their time together. Bernie spent many hours woodworking in their basement producing amazing pieces of furniture, which his children and grandchildren will continue to enjoy for many years to come. Ollie continued to care for her plants and gardens. Sadly, four days after Bernie's passing, Ollie joined her love in the afterlife on Valentine's Day. It was a real life version of The Notebook. Bernie leaves behind two sons, Peter Greig of England, and Robert John of Doylestown. Ollie leaves behind a son, Robert, and was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela. In addition, Bernie and Ollie are survived by seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. They will be celebrated for living life to the fullest.
